You can have a chin correction If you want your chin to look better with the profile of your face. With a chin correction, we will change the size and shape of your chin. The most common procedure is a chin enlargement with the use of an implant. Especially If you have a relatively short chin or If your chin more or less flows through into your neck, a chin enlargement with an implant will give a beautiful and subtle result. “Excellent experience with my chin correction at EC Jan van Goyen. The medical team is not just highly qualified and professional, the communication was very good as well. Their focus was entirely on me, the patient, which I thought to be very pleasant.”
“I was very insecure about my chin: it basically ran straight through into my neck. After my chin enlargement, I now have a beautiful and clear jawline and neck. The feeling of shame I had before is now gone completely.”
Drs Roossink carried out my chin correction in a very professional manner. During the first consultation, we discussed my wishes and she indicated that a chin reduction would be the best option for me. Now I feel happy every time I look in the mirror!”
During the first consultation, you and the attending plastic surgeon will discuss the chin correction. Our surgeons specialise in performing chin corrective procedures and we will guide you through the preparation, the treatment itself, and the aftercare.
Prices and insurance coverage
A chin correction is not covered by the health insurer as it is an aesthetic procedure. The costs for the correction depend on the type of surgery we have to carry out. Below you will find an indication of the costs. Your consultant can give you an exact price If you require a complete overview of the treatment costs.

Types of chin corrections
Before we start the treatment, we will take photos for your medical file. This is the best way to assess the results afterwards. We will then give you a general anaesthesia and start the chin corrective surgery. There are two types of chin corrections:
To make your chin larger, we make a small incision under your chin. Via this location, we can then position the implant. When the implant is in the right place, the surgeon will close the wound with a special stitching technique which was developed to ensure minimum scarring. We then cover your chin with a plaster bandage.
Another option is to insert the implant via the inside of the mouth. With this method, the surgeon will make an incision at the level of the jaw, between the upper lip and lower teeth. An advantage of this method is that there will be no visible scars, but there is a bigger risk of infections.
If your chin is too pronounced, too protruding, or looks very long, we can perform a chin reduction. We reduce the size of your chin by removing part of the jawbone or by the removal of connective tissue and cartilage.
For this procedure, we make a small incision under your chin. Via this incision, the plastic surgeon removes bone, connective tissue, and muscle tissue when necessary. If your chin has the right size and shape, the surgeon will close the wound with sutures. The scar that remains is very small and hardly visible. After the surgery, you will have a plaster bandage on your chin. The chin corrective surgeries are performed under general anaesthesia.
The first consultation
During the first consultation with your attending plastic surgeon, you will discuss everything that is involved with your chin correction. You will be informed about the method that will suit your situation best, the result you can expect, the possible risks, and everything about the best aftercare
A chin correction will change the appearance of your face permanently. It is, therefore, important that you talk about your expectations prior to the surgery. The plastic surgeon will assess whether the technical options for the correction match your expectations.
The surgeon will also establish whether you are a suitable candidate for a chin correction. In some cases, nose corrective surgery (rhinoplasty) or neck liposculpture will give a better result. Is a chin correction the best solution for you? Then you and the surgeon will decide on the size of the implant.
After the correction
The first week after the surgery, the treatment area will be bruised and swollen. The bruises usually disappear quickly, but the swelling will be visible for a few weeks. This means that your chin will be bigger than normal for about four weeks.
Risks and complications
As with any surgical procedure, a chin correction can have risks and complications. General risks such as a negative reaction to the anaesthesia and plasters can occur after any procedure. Possible other complications that may occur are:
- Wound that is not healing as it should
- Shifting of the implant
- Capsular contraction around the implant
- Prolonged numb feeling in the lip
- Weakened muscle around the mouth
