Varicose veins do not go away on their own. If you do not have varicose veins treated, they even expand further and further. This not only causes unsightly blue vessels on the legs, but also physical discomfort.
Varicose veins are dilated veins that do not function properly. These dilated veins are clearly visible on the skin. Most varicose veins are blue shimmered and tortuous in shape. A varicose vein can be sensitive and in some cases very painful. In addition, they cause a tired, sluggish and heavy feeling in the legs. Sometimes they cause itching and tingling in the legs. Fluid accumulations around the ankles or skin discolorations can also occur.
Get varicose veins treated
Varicose veins can spread further if left untreated. It is therefore wise to have it looked at by a specialist. Varicose veins arise because the valves in the veins no longer function properly. As a result, the blood cannot be pumped properly and it sinks back into the legs. Healthy valves in the surrounding veins therefore have to work harder to pump blood around. This increases the chance that healthy veins will also become overloaded, resulting in new varicose veins. Therefore, do not postpone a treatment unnecessarily long.
