What is a prosthesis change?
During an implant replacement, the plastic surgeon removes the breast implants and replaces them with new ones. During the consultation, you will choose the size and shape of the new implants in consultation with the doctor. You will also discuss the placement technique: in front of or (obliquely) behind the pectoral muscle. If you choose to have your breast implants removed and not replaced, this is called a explantationYou can read about this here here more. When making a change, you have the following options:
1. The same implants
When replacing your prosthesis, you can choose the same type of implant, shape, and size. This is an option if you are satisfied with the cosmetic results of your current implants, but it's wise to replace them if they are outdated, for example, or if this is recommended after an ultrasound or MRI scan.
2. A different shape or size
It may happen that the current implants no longer suit you. In that case, you can opt for adjustments in the size, shape or material of the implants. The size can be increased or reduced and different shapes are available, such as round or ergonomic/anatomical implants. It is also possible to choose a different type of implant, such as replacing silicone implants with implants with water solution.
3. Other placement technique
Finally, when replacing a prosthesis, it can also be decided to place the new implants using a different technique: Behind, halfway behind, or in front of the muscle. The techniques are generally chosen based on the patient's body shape or wishes. The patient's body and wishes can change over time, so patients may also consider new implants that are placed differently.
The treatment process

3. aftercare
It is important that you receive the right treatment and therefore the plastic surgeon will determine during the first consultation whether your wishes for an eyelid correction can be met.
1. Consult
The first step is a no-obligation consultation. During the consultation, the surgeon will ask about your concerns and wishes. This gives the plastic surgeon a clear picture of your initial situation and the desired result. They will examine, among other things, whether there is capsule formation, the shape of your breasts, and the elasticity of your skin.
2. Operation
A denture replacement takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours and is performed under general anesthesia. First, the treatment area will be marked, and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions. You will then be placed under general anesthesia. Through a small incision, the plastic surgeon will remove your dentures and insert new ones. Any existing capsule formation will be removed.
3. Aftercare
You can usually go home the same day after surgery, but you are not allowed to drive yourself. For the first few weeks, you should take it easy and avoid heavy lifting or exercising. Paracetamol is used for pain relief. To ensure a smooth recovery, we will provide you with comprehensive aftercare instructions.
