With liposuction we simply remove the accumulated fat in places such as the neck, abdomen, hips, buttocks and thighs. The accumulation of the fat is caused by an increased number of fat cells in these places. An important condition for liposuction is that the skin is sufficiently elastic.

Liposuction: the treatment
We are happy to explain what you can expect when you opt for liposuction at Aesthetic Center Jan van Goyen.
Step 1: mark the treatment area
Before the treatment, we take photos for your medical file, you are weighed and we determine your body measurements. During the first consultation, you have determined the treatment zones together with your treating physician, and these are now carefully marked. The plastic surgeon also marks the places where the incisions are made for the small suction needles.
Step 2: Anesthesia
We numb these treatment areas with injections. As soon as this anesthetic is sufficiently effective, we make the cuts. We inject the tumescent anesthetic fluid with a fine needle. This fluid constricts the blood vessels, minimizing bleeding during the procedure. It also enhances the effects of the local anesthetic. As a result, you will hardly notice the operation.
Step 3: suck out the fat
After the exposure time of 20 minutes, the plastic surgeon aspirates the fat cells using a fine suction needle. The doctor feels the skin during suction. This way he can determine whether enough fat has been removed. The needles are connected to a vacuum pump that sucks out the grease. The treatment is painless, but you may feel pressure in the treatment area. The duration of the treatment depends on the number of treatment zones. In most cases, the procedure takes between 1 and 2.5 hours.
Recovery and aftercare after liposuction
After the treatment, we cover the small incisions with plasters. In most cases, the incisions are so small that suturing is not necessary. If this is necessary for you, we will remove the stitches after a week during the check-up.
You can go home on the day of the procedure. Please note that you are not allowed to drive yourself, so take someone with you to accompany you. You will experience little to no after-pain for the first few hours. This is due to the numbing effect of the tumescent fluid that continues to work for a few hours. You can then use a mild pain reliever such as paracetamol to suppress pain.

Reimbursement by the health insurer
A liposuction is only reimbursed by the basic or additional health insurance if there is a medical indication for you. For example, when you can no longer function properly due to the fat deposits. In addition, liposuction must be the best method to get rid of your complaints. Your treating surgeon can provide the health insurer with an explanation for this. Do you want to know whether your health insurer reimburses the liposuction? Ask the insurer prior to the first consultation. This way you will not be faced with any surprises.

Frequently Asked Questions About Liposuction
Do you have a question about liposuction? You may find the answer in the questions below! Is your question not listed? Then you can call us without obligation on 020 305 5847. We are happy to help you.
When am I a candidate for liposuction?
In principle, liposuction is suitable for everyone, but it is important that your Body Mass Index (BMI) is not above 30. Liposuction is not a suitable way to lose weight quickly.
How long does the treatment take?
The duration of treatment depends on the amount of fat that we remove. In general, the treatment lasts one to two hours.
Will I have scars after liposuction?
To remove the fatty tissue, we make small incisions of about three millimeters. The scars will therefore not become larger than this size. During the healing process, the scars will fade and become almost invisible.
How long do I have to recover?
The total recovery after the procedure takes about six to nine months. We advise you to take sufficient rest for the first two weeks. You are allowed to perform light daily activities. After about four weeks you can exercise and exercise intensively again and pick up your physically heavier work again.
What areas are most treated in women?
In general, women opt for liposuction of the following treatment zones: the saddlebags (outside of the legs), flanks (love handles), inside of the legs and the removal of excess belly fat.
What areas are most commonly treated in men?
In general, men opt for liposuction of the following treatment zones: the flanks (love handles), the removal of abdominal fat and liposuction of the back.
