Lipofilling is a safe and widely used treatment, but like any surgical procedure, this technique also has some points to consider that you might view as disadvantages. We list them for you.

An important characteristic of lipofilling is that not all injected fat cells are retained in the body. On average, the body reabsorbs approximately 30 to 50 of the fat. (fat loss). As a result, the final outcome can only be properly assessed after 3 to 6 months, and in some cases, additional treatment may be desirable to achieve the intended result.

In addition, sufficient body fat is required for lipofilling. Therefore, the treatment is not always possible for very slender patients. 

Because the fat is first removed by liposuction, recovery occurs in two places: both at the site where the fat was taken and where it was injected. Many patients view the liposuction as a benefit, but for your body, this does mean extra recovery.

As with any surgery, there is a small risk of complications, such as infection, bleeding, or fat necrosis. The plastic surgeon will discuss these risks with you during the consultation.

Lipofilling is not painful. The treatment is performed under local or general anesthesia, so you will feel nothing during the procedure. After the treatment, the treated area may feel somewhat bruised. Paracetamol is sufficient to suppress the pain. In general, many of our patients indicate that the pain was much less than they expected.

The fat is injected into your body using cannulas. This has the advantage of not leaving large scars. These scars are often smaller than half a centimeter. These scars are usually barely visible after a year.

The complications that may occur after a lipofilling procedure are basically nil as we work with the body’s own material. However, every plastic surgery procedure has its risks. Possible complications that may occur are:
