The natural aging process can cause the skin on your face to sag. Changes in your face are unfortunately inevitable, as the skin loses firmness and elasticity. Are you bothered by the aging of your face? Then a facelift may offer a solution. The facelift is an effective way to remove excess skin and restore contours to your face.
We understand better than anyone that a procedure such as a facelift raises countless questions. Bee Aesthetic Center Jan van Goyen We attach great importance to providing clear and honest information, so you have come to the right place to ask all your questions. Because our plastic surgeons speak to patients who are considering a facelift every day, they regularly hear the same questions. In this article we list the 10 most frequently asked questions for you.
1. How much does a facelift cost?
A facelift is available with us starting from €10,500. However, the cost of this procedure varies depending on your initial situation and wishes. Curious about the exact costs? Then visit us for a no-obligation consultation. For more information about the cost of a facelift, please read here further.
2. What is done during a facelift?
At one face lift the subcutaneous tissue is lifted and excess skin is removed, returning the facial skin to its original position. To achieve this, the plastic surgeon makes a small incision in the hairy area of the temple, in front of and behind the ear.
During a facelift we tighten the skin and the subcutaneous connective and muscle tissue. As a result, the folds on your face are less pronounced after the procedure and your jawline and the contours of your neck are improved. This gives you a rejuvenated appearance, so that your appearance better matches how you feel.
At Aesthetic Center Jan van Goyen we use the latest techniques during the operation. These techniques have made the facelift a less invasive operation. The operation takes less time, the scars are virtually invisible and the recovery time is reduced.
3. When will I be presentable again?
Initially, your face may be swollen and discolored, but you will notice a rapid recovery. You will usually be presentable again after one to two weeks. The end result of the facelift will take a little longer, but during the first weeks you will see improvement every day. Most swelling and discolorations disappear during this period.
4. Does a facelift give a natural result?
Yes, a facelift gives a natural result. With a facelift we try to get the most out of your face, while preserving your natural appearance. You will look unobtrusively better and younger. There is therefore often unfair talk about an unnatural, too tight result after a facelift. Many people think that a facelift completely changes the face and fades the characteristic facial features. However, the opposite is true.
5. Are the results of a facelift permanent?
Yes, because we also move the subcutaneous connective and muscle tissue, the facelift has a long-lasting effect. However, a facelift is not a method of slowing the natural aging process, so you may see signs of aging again over time. On average, the effect of the facelift remains visible for about ten years.
6. Are fillers a good alternative to a facelift?
Depending on the amount of wrinkles and folds in your face, fillers may be able to (temporarily) give you a rejuvenated appearance. However, these wrinkles and folds arise due to the loss of firmness and elasticity in the skin and the reduction of the subcutaneous tissue layers and bone structure. Fillers are only a temporary solution that does not address the problem at its core. Fillers are therefore not an alternative to a facelift, but they may offer a solution if you are not yet ready for a surgical facelift. You are always welcome to discuss the options with our cosmetic doctor.
7. What is the best age for a facelift?
Because every individual ages at a different pace, there is no standard age for a facelift. Usually visible aging on the face starts around the age of 50e years of life, which means that from the age of 50e would be eligible for a facelift. However, this depends on various factors, such as your lifestyle, overall health and origin. Are you bothered by the aging of your face, but do you have the feeling that you are "too young" for this procedure? Then come by for a no-obligation consultation. The plastic surgeon can determine whether the facelift is a suitable solution based on your initial situation and wishes. Perhaps a less invasive operation or cosmetic treatment is possible to give you a rejuvenated appearance.
8. How long is the recovery after a facelift?
Recovery after a facelift takes approximately six weeks. During the first two weeks it is important to rest. Your body desperately needs the energy to recover. After the first two weeks you can resume almost all your daily activities and many patients are back to work after two weeks. Please note that you are not allowed to bend, press or lift yet. You can do this again after three weeks. Furthermore, heavy physical exertion, such as intensive sports, is not recommended until six weeks after the operation.
9. Is the healing of a facelift painful?
In general, our patients experience little pain during the healing process. If you do feel pain, you can use paracetamol as a painkiller.
10. How long can I not be in the sun after a facelift?
It is advisable not to expose your face to the sun, tanning bed or sauna for the first 3 months after the procedure. If it is not possible to keep your scars covered during these months, we recommend using a sunblock.

During the no-obligation consultation, you will discuss your wishes and the treatment with the plastic surgeon. We understand that a procedure can be a significant step, so the surgeon is happy to take the time to tell you all about it. Our specialized surgeons are:
Dr. Hay Winters
After completing his medical studies at the universities of Ghent and Nijmegen, Dr. Winters trained in general surgery at the Diaconessen Hospital in Eindhoven and the Sint Lucas Hospital in Amsterdam. Subsequently, he specialized in plastic surgery, and after his registration in 1994, Hay Winters focused further on complex reconstructive procedures: primarily of the face and breasts (for example, after the removal of a tumor), but also of the trunk, arms, or legs (likewise after the removal of malignant lesions or following serious accidents). From his passion for reconstructive surgery arose an interest in aesthetic surgery, as he realized that the wish of a patient with a severe disfigurement is essentially the same as the wish of a 'cosmetic' patient: both want an appearance in which they can feel comfortable. His expertise in reconstructive surgery proves to be a great advantage in the practice of aesthetic surgery, particularly when it concerns the breasts or the face. Treatments You can consult Dr. Hay Winters for various types of plastic surgical procedures: Facelift; Armlift; Leglift; Buttocklift; Eyelid correction: upper and lower eyelid correction; Breast surgery: prosthesis exchange, explantation, breast augmentation, lift, and reduction; Abdominal wall correction; Gynecomastia; Hand surgery; Ear and earlobe correction; Labia correction; Lipofilling and liposuction; Scar correction; Skin excision. Plastic surgeon since 1994. Since 1994, Hay Winters has been affiliated with the VU Medical Center as a plastic surgeon, and in 2003, he joined the Department of Plastic Surgery at the Aesthetic Center Amsterdam. More about Dr. Hay Winters. Hay Winters conducts scientific research and publishes articles in international scientific journals. In 2007, he obtained his PhD on the transplantation of vascularized bone from the pelvis and leg for the reconstruction of severe bone defects (lower and upper jaw, spine, arms, and legs). Due to his academic background, he is regularly invited to give lectures both domestically and abroad. As a lecturer, he is involved in continuing education courses for plastic surgeons, as well as for general surgeons, ENT specialists, maxillofacial surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, and rehabilitation physicians. Furthermore, colleagues from home and abroad regularly invite him as a guest surgeon. After participating in the TV program 'De Grootmeesters' in 2005 at the request of the Dutch Society for Plastic Surgery, Hay Winters was voted the best reconstructive surgeon in the Netherlands by both the professional jury and the public. Memberships: Dutch Society for Plastic Surgery (NVPC), the Quality Committee of the NVPC, Dutch Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (NVEPC), European Association for Gender Surgeons (EURAPS), the Quality Council of the Federation of Dutch Specialists, Dutch Society for Surgery, Dutch Working Group on Head and Neck Tumors (NWHHT), European Plastic Surgery Workshop.
