A brow lift can change a sullen or tired appearance and leave you feeling refreshed

Due to aging and genetic predisposition, the skin around the eyebrows can become saggy and press against the upper eyelid. This can give you a tired or sullen appearance, even though you probably don't feel that way at all. A brow lift can often provide a solution. There are several treatment methods for correcting sagging eyebrows: eyebrow suspension and a eyebrow liftIn some cases a endoscopic forehead lift or traditional forehead lift necessary. In addition, eyebrow correction is often combined with eyelid correction.

Types of corrections

During the consultation, the plastic surgeon will examine your eyebrows and inform you about the possible treatment methods. We generally distinguish between two types of techniques: eyebrow suspension and the eyebrow lift.

Eyebrow Lift

With the eyebrow lift, the plastic surgeon makes small incisions into the skin creases above the eyebrows. This enables the plastic surgeon to remove the excess skin so the eyebrows are lifted and attached with a dissolvable suture. This method is suitable for people who already have deeper skin creases above the eyebrows as this is where the scar will be. People who do not have these deeper skin creases are not suitable candidates for this procedure as the scar will become too noticeable and the endoscopic forehead lift is a better option.

Eyebrow suspension

Drooping upper eyelids can usually be remedied with eyelid surgery. However, in the case of drooping upper eyelids, the root of the problem sometimes lies in the eyebrows, which droop, particularly on the outer edges. This can also result in excessively stretched upper eyelid skin. In this case, the surgeon must operate on both the upper eyelids and the eyebrows. This can be achieved by combining eyelid surgery with eyebrow shaping.

With an eyebrow suspension, the outer corner of the eyebrow is secured to the eyebrow bone with a stitch through the incision made in the upper eyelid. An eyebrow suspension is a fairly simple procedure and takes place under local anesthesia. The procedure takes about 45 minutes (in combination with the eyelid correction) and is performed as an outpatient procedure.

The treatment process

1. Consult

The first step is a free consultation. During this consultation, the plastic surgeon will determine whether a brow lift is the right solution for your needs and concerns. You will receive information about the treatment, preparation, and aftercare. This consultation provides ample opportunity to address all your questions, concerns, and doubts.

2. Operation

A brow lift takes about 45 minutes and is performed under local anesthesia. The surgeon will discuss the most suitable treatment method with you during your consultation. You can go home the same day, but you are not allowed to drive yourself after the surgery. Please arrange for someone to pick you up.

3. Aftercare

You can return home a few hours after the procedure. Your eyebrows may remain sensitive for a while. We recommend cooling the operated area at home for the first few days with cool packs available at the pharmacy. This will help reduce pain and swelling. You can take paracetamol for pain relief. We will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions.

Before and after a brow lift

Every person is unique, so a brow lift produces a different result for each patient. During the consultation, the doctor will explain in detail what you can expect from the results of this procedure. We'll show you an example of a patient who underwent a brow lift combined with eyelid surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect from the recovery period?

You may return home a few hours after the procedure. Possible symptoms include swelling of the eyebrows and eyelids, sore eyebrows, bruising, and headaches. The swelling will disappear after about two to six weeks. Your eyebrows may remain sensitive for a while. We recommend cooling the operated area at home for the first few days with cool packs available from pharmacies. This will help reduce pain and swelling. You can take paracetamol for pain relief.

You may wash your face and you may take a shower. The plasters usually stay in place and dry just fine. You should avoid physical exertion and sports during the first week, as well as lifting heavy things and bending over. You are also not allowed to wear cream and make-up on the surgical area for 2 weeks. If your eyelids have also been corrected, you should not wear contact lenses for 2 weeks.

During the first follow-up visit after the eyebrow correction, the bandages and any stitches will be removed. To assess the final results of the surgery, you will return six weeks later. After three months, you will return for the final checkup. More photos will be taken at that time for your medical file. The before-and-after photos, and thus the results of the surgery, can be clearly viewed and compared.
