How does a consultation proceed?
After booking a consultation, you will receive an appointment confirmation from us. In this appointment confirmation, you will find the time at which you are expected. You report to the counter at the agreed time. The counter clerk will ask for your name and proof of identity, after which you can take a seat in the waiting room. As soon as the plastic surgeon can receive you, you will be picked up in the waiting room.
Because we believe it is important that you are well-informed and can make a well-considered decision, the doctor will take plenty of time for you. You can ask all your questions during the consultation and share any concerns and doubts.
The doctor will first ask about your wishes and complaints. What bothers you? What would you like to see differently? What would be the best possible result for you? It is important that you are honest about your wishes and expectations, so that the doctor can properly assess whether the intended result is feasible. He or she will then tell you about the possibilities and give you honest and transparent advice. You will then receive information about the operation, the preparation and the aftercare. Finally, photos are taken for your medical file.
Purpose of the consultation
The consultation aims to discover whether a plastic surgery procedure suits your wishes and which treatment can lead to the desired result. Based on your wishes and complaints, the plastic surgeon will determine a personal treatment plan on. Furthermore, the consultation aims to:
- To know what the treatment will cost. The cost of a procedure can vary, depending on the complexity and duration of the procedure. It is also possible that a treatment falls under insured care, which means that your health insurer will reimburse the treatment. During the consultation, the doctor will discuss with you whether your treatment falls under insured or uninsured care falls. During the consultation, the plastic surgeon will ask you about your medical history, allergies and previous operations. It is therefore advisable to also bring the following to the consultation:

Based on this information, the surgeon determines whether the operation can be performed safely.
Costs of the consultation
Because we believe it is important that you are optimally informed, we offer you this orientation consultation free on. After all, you can only make a good decision after you have discussed your wishes, the possibilities and the rates of the treatments with your doctor.
Are you coming with a referral letter from your GP or for a second opinion? Then the first consultation will be declared to your health insurer. This declaration affects your statutory deductible of €385. Have you not yet reached your deductible? Then the costs of the consultation will be at your own expense. The rate varies per health insurer.
Tips
To get the most out of the consultation, we will give you a number of tips.
1. Please indicate if you do not understand something. You are entitled to clear information and the doctor is happy to take the time for you. So please feel free to ask questions and obtain as much information as possible.
2. Don't make a hasty decision. You do not have to decide immediately after the consultation whether you want to undergo the procedure. Our advice is to take your time. Only do it if you are completely behind it and feel a connection with the doctor. Do you want to see the doctor again? No problem, you are always welcome for a second consultation.
3. Let the doctor know exactly what you expect from the procedure. Sometimes the ideal image that one strives for is not realistic. It is therefore advisable to discuss with the doctor during the consultation what you expect from the procedure. He or she will tell you honestly whether your expectations are feasible and realistic.

Drs. Josien van der Meer
Dr. JG van der Meer completed her training as a plastic surgeon at Amsterdam UMC – AMC and OLVG. She completed part of her training at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital, the Red Cross Hospital/Burn Center in Beverwijk, and the Spaarne Gasthuis in Haarlem. During her training, she completed an ISAPS Fellowship in Germany, where she specialized in aesthetic and reconstructive periorbital and facial surgery. She has also held various administrative positions within the Dutch Society for Plastic Surgery (NVPC) and as chair of the Junior Society for Plastic Surgery (JVPC). In these roles, she focused on the quality of plastic surgery training and represented the interests of residents. She has participated in various medical missions in Morocco, Laos, and Tanzania, among other places. Since 2019, she has been a European Board Certified Plastic Surgeon (EBOPRAS), having passed the required examination.
