The treatment process for a breast lift consists of three phases: the consultation, the operation and the aftercare. On this page we will briefly tell you what you can expect from the operation. Have you decided to undergo the operation? Then you will of course receive extensive information from us, so that you know exactly what to expect from the operation.
Before the operation
During the consultation, the plastic surgeon will ask you a number of questions. These questions include:
- Have you had surgery before?
- Do you have any allergies?
- Do you use any medications and if so, which medications do you use?
The answers to these questions are important for the operation. In addition to questions about your medical history, the doctor will also ask you if you smoke and/or drink alcohol. If this is the case, he/she will advise you to stop doing so before the operation. Alcohol and smoking have a negative effect on the healing process and this increases the chance of complications. The plastic surgeon will discuss all of this with you so that you can prepare yourself as well as possible for the operation.
The operation will be scheduled in consultation with you and will take place in our brand new operating center.
How does a breast lift proceed?
On the day of the operation you must fast. You may report to the reception of the operating centre at the agreed time. You will then be accompanied by a nurse to the correct room.
The surgeon will mark your breasts and ask you a few final questions. Do you have any questions or concerns? You will of course be given the opportunity to share them. We believe it is important that you go into the operation feeling good and we are happy to take the time for you.
A breast lift is performed under general anesthesia. When you are ready, the anesthesia is administered and the operation begins. The operation takes an average of two to three hours.
During the operation, the excess skin is cut away, the nipple is moved upwards and the breast is modeled into the new shape. Which method the plastic surgeon uses during the operation is discussed during the consultation. These methods are:
- Through an anchor-shaped incision
- Through an incision around the nipples
After the operation, the incisions are closed with very fine sutures and these dissolve by themselves, depending on the location of the suture. It may be necessary to leave a drain, this drain ensures that any blood and fluid is drained away.
After the surgery
After the operation, you will wake up in the recovery room. Your breasts will be bandaged or covered with plasters over the wounds. You will be given medication to combat the pain. The pain that you still experience after a day is usually described as muscle pain and can be combated with paracetamol.
During the consultation, you will discuss with the doctor whether or not you will stay overnight. You may return home on the day itself or after one overnight stay. Please note that you are not allowed to drive yourself.
