1. How much does a breast lift cost?

2. What does a breast lift do?
A breast lift is a plastic surgery procedure that corrects sagging or sagging breasts. Excess skin and fatty tissue are removed and the nipples are positioned upwards. In contrast to a breast reduction The aim of a breast lift is not to reduce the size of the breasts, but to restore the contour of the breasts. After a breast lift, the contour of your breasts has improved without reducing their size: your breasts are firmer and fit your body better.
3. How long will the results of a breast lift remain visible?
The result of a breast lift is permanent, because the skin is permanently removed. A breast lift usually provides long-lasting results, but unfortunately it does not guarantee permanent firmness. It is important to remember that the natural aging process continues after the procedure. Your age, weight fluctuations, pregnancies and your general health influence the firmness of your skin and therefore the result of the breast lift.
Although (slight) sagging of the breasts is possible over time, your breasts will still be a lot firmer in place than before the procedure. So even if your breasts sag slightly, you will probably still be happy with the results.

4. How long is the recovery after a breast lift?
You will have to take it easy the first day after the operation, but after two days you can do light housework and administrative work again. Do you have a sedentary job? Then there is a good chance that you will be able to return to work after a week. Your body is still recovering, but you should have enough energy to do your work again. If you have a physically demanding job, it is advisable to consult with your doctor when you can resume your work.
The full recovery after a breast lift is approximately 6 weeks. During this period you should avoid physical exertion and (heavy) lifting as much as possible. After 6 weeks you will no longer notice any obstacles and you can resume all your activities.
5. What am I not allowed to do after a breast lift?
After the breast lift, it is important to carefully follow the postoperative instructions of your plastic surgeon. Although specific instructions may vary from patient to patient, there are some things that almost every patient should avoid after breast surgery. These are:
1. Intense physical activity. During the first weeks, avoid sports and intensive physical exertion. In general, you can resume this after 6 weeks.
2. Heavy lifting. Do you have young children? Please keep in mind that you will not be able to lift them during the first few weeks.
3. Smoking and alcohol. Your treating doctor will advise you to stop smoking before the operation and not to resume smoking until at least 6 weeks after the procedure. Smoking can slow down the healing process. In addition, alcohol is also not recommended because it can promote bleeding. For optimal recovery, avoid smoking and alcohol completely.
4. Lift your arms. You can of course move your arms, but make sure that your elbows do not reach higher than shoulder height.
5. Wearing a regular bra. After the operation you will wear a sports bra (emdaplast bra). You must wear this for 6 weeks, unless your treating physician has given other instructions.
Furthermore, general advice is not to take a bath, not to shower for too long and too hot and not to seek out other sources of heat.
6. How long do I wear a sports bra after a breast lift?
After the operation you will wear a sports bra for 6 weeks, of which the first 3 to 4 weeks day and night and then only during the day. You will receive this sports bra from us after the operation, so you do not have to purchase it yourself.
7. How to sleep after a breast lift?
An optimal sleeping position is on your back, at a 45 degree angle. This minimizes pressure on the breasts and supports the healing process. This means that you lie with your back slightly elevated, for example using pillows, a pregnancy pillow under your back and head or an adjustable bed. This can reduce any swelling in the breast area. Do you prefer to sleep on your side? This is possible, but may not be as comfortable as you are used to. Fortunately, the discomfort soon decreases and you will notice that sleeping becomes easier and easier.
8. Is a breast lift painful?
The pain experience after a breast lift varies from patient to patient, but in general a breast lift is not very painful. The pain you feel can be compared to muscle pain and can be controlled with paracetamol. It is normal to experience some degree of discomfort and pain for the first few days to weeks, but the pain subsides relatively quickly.

9. Can I get reimbursed for a breast lift?
In general, a breast lift is not reimbursed by your health insurer because it is a cosmetic procedure. If there is no medical necessity, the procedure will not be reimbursed. However, there are exceptions where the operation is reimbursed. If you have serious complaints or problems with your health, which are alleviated by this operation, there may be a medical necessity. In this case, your plastic surgeon and health insurer will have to jointly assess the extent to which you are eligible for reimbursement.
10. Can a breast lift be combined with implants?
Yes, a breast lift can be combined with breast implants. Your breasts are not only lifted, but also enlarged by the implant. This combination of procedures is often considered when the patient not only wants to improve the contour of her breasts, but also wants more volume. Drs. Josien van der Meer
Dr. JG van der Meer completed her training as a plastic surgeon at Amsterdam UMC – AMC and OLVG. She completed part of her training at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital, the Red Cross Hospital/Burn Center in Beverwijk, and the Spaarne Gasthuis in Haarlem. During her training, she completed an ISAPS Fellowship in Germany, where she specialized in aesthetic and reconstructive periorbital and facial surgery. She has also held various administrative positions within the Dutch Society for Plastic Surgery (NVPC) and as chair of the Junior Society for Plastic Surgery (JVPC). In these roles, she focused on the quality of plastic surgery training and represented the interests of residents. She has participated in various medical missions in Morocco, Laos, and Tanzania, among other places. Since 2019, she has been a European Board Certified Plastic Surgeon (EBOPRAS), having passed the required examination.
