When the breasts are sagging and the padding on the top of your breasts disappears, you may want to consider a breast lift. A breast lift is similar to a breast reduction, except that no breast tissue is removed during the lift. In this procedure, excess skin is cut away, the nipple is moved upwards and the breast tissue is reshaped.
If you have small breasts, you can take a at the same time as the breast lift breast augmentation have it carried out. It is also possible to have the breast lift done first and then the augmentation six months later. Most women are very satisfied with their breasts after a breast lift and forgo an augmentation.

The consultation
During the consultation, the plastic surgeon will discuss your wishes regarding the size and shape of your breasts and determine whether your wishes for a breast lift can be met. The plastic surgeon takes into account the current shape of your breasts, the elasticity and quality of your skin and the location of the nipples and areola. In addition, the plastic surgeon will tell you more about the procedure, the policy before and after the operation and any complications.
The surgery
The breast lift is performed under general anesthesia and takes two to three hours. During the operation, the excess skin is cut away, the nipple is moved upwards and the breast is reshaped in its new shape. Which method the plastic surgeon uses during the operation will be discussed during the consultation.
- Through an anchor-shaped incision
- Through an incision around the nipples
After the operation, the incisions are closed with very fine suture material and these dissolve on their own, depending on the location of the suture. It may be necessary that a drain is left behind, this drain ensures that any blood and fluid is drained. During the consultation you will discuss whether or not you will stay overnight. Self-driving is not allowed, you must arrange transport.
Aftercare and recovery
Your breasts are bandaged or just covered with plasters over the wounds. In some cases, drains are placed. These tubes are usually removed before you go home. In consultation with the recovery nurse, you will receive pain medication to take at home. The pain that persists after a day is usually described as muscle pain and can usually be treated with painkillers such as Paracetamol.
The first day after the operation you will have to take it easy, but after two days you can do light household and administrative work. It goes without saying that the surgical area must be handled with care during the first few weeks. Sports and heavy work, such as vacuuming and lifting, should be avoided for the first six weeks.
The scars may look a bit fiery at first. Over the course of a year, that fieryness disappears, they take on the color of the skin and become less visible. UV radiation is not good for scars, so they can remain red or discolored for an unnecessarily long time. It is therefore best to keep the scars covered in the first months or to protect them well, this is possible with a sunblock.
After the operation you will wear a sports bra for six weeks, of which the first three to four weeks are day and night and then up to six weeks, only during the day.
After the operation, we are available 24/7 in case of emergency or urgent questions.
Result
In general, the result of a breast lift is easy to predict, but it is important that you make your wishes clear to the plastic surgeon in advance. However, no full guarantee can be given on the aesthetic result. The scars that arise after the procedure are not (very) noticeable in the long run.

Risks and Complications
Every surgical procedure carries risks and complications, including a breast lift. We want to reduce the risk of risks by providing the right information and precautions. By carefully following our instructions prior to the breast lift, you will minimize the risk of complications. Some possible complications of a breast lift may include:
- Feeling change in your breasts
- Allergic reactions to the anesthetic or suture material
- Displacement and/or rupture of the breast prosthesis
- Swelling or bleeding
- Infections
In some cases you may suffer from keloid formation, or the formation of extra connective tissue in the scars. Another disadvantage can be that the breasts appear flatter after surgery. This can possibly be remedied with an implant.
