When considering breast augmentation, you often have several options. Lipofilling is one of them, provided you have sufficient fat. With lipofilling, the body's own fat is suctioned away using liposuction and reinjected into the breasts. This creates more volume in the breasts and restores contours without the use of breast implants. The advantage of a lipofilling breast augmentation is the natural result: the breasts remain soft and look natural. Typically, the result of this procedure is a one-cup size increase, making it perfect for women who desire only a small enlargement.
What is lipofilling?
With lipofilling, the body's own fat is removed by means of liposuctionThis is done using small incisions and a thin tube that is inserted to gently suck out the fat. This fat is collected and purified, and then reinjected into the breasts.
In most cases, fat is removed from the abdomen, hips, or legs. Volume is created in the area where the fat is subsequently reinjected. Because the plastic surgeon uses only the patient's own fat, lipofilling is a safe treatment with long-lasting results.
The benefits of breast augmentation with lipofilling
Compared to breast augmentation with breast implants, breast augmentation with lipofilling offers several advantages:
The natural result. For many patients, this is the primary reason for choosing this treatment method. The breasts retain a natural shape and remain soft. No one will suspect that you have had anything done to your breasts because they look natural.
Safety. Lipofilling carries fewer risks of long-term complications because nothing 'foreign' is placed in the body. This reduces the chance of infections or rejection reactions, and capsular contracture cannot occur, as can happen with breast implants.
The combination with liposuction. With this treatment, the volume of the breasts increases, while you slim down elsewhere due to liposuction. The result? Larger breasts and slimmer contours: a body that is beautifully balanced.
When is lipofilling suitable?
If you are bothered by the volume, asymmetry, or sagging nature of your breasts, lipofilling may offer a solution. However, there must be sufficient fat in the body to qualify for this treatment method. Generally, approximately 500 to 600 cc of fat is required to inject 200 cc per breast. This increases your breasts by about one cup size. During the initial consultation, the plastic surgeon will assess whether there is sufficient fatty tissue in the body to give the breasts the desired volume. If this proves not to be the case, the doctor will inform you about alternatives, such as a breast augmentation with prostheses or a hybrid augmentation: a combination of prostheses and the body's own fat.
The result
The final result of the breast augmentation is visible three months after the treatment. Approximately 50 to 70 TP3T of the injected fat remains in the body. Therefore, during the first few months, you will see the volume decrease slightly, after which the final volume becomes visible. The result is subsequently long-lasting. As long as you maintain a stable weight, the volume of your breasts will change little to none.
Will I be left with scars from the treatment?
In general, you will not have any visible scars from this treatment. The liposuction initially causes small wounds, but these spots of the incisions will gradually become less visible. However, keep in mind that every skin is different. Where nothing is visible very quickly in one person, the other person will be left with small scars.

Explantation in combination with lipofilling
More and more women are choosing to have their (dated) breast implants removed. We call this an explantation. How long had you had breast implants? “After years of being dissatisfied with my AA breasts, I had my breasts enlarged in 2015. I was young, insecure, and wanted to look more feminine. Everyone was friendly, and even though it went quite fast, I feel like everyone took the time for me. The room was clean and cool, but the atmosphere was pleasant!” Can you tell us something about your recovery? “I recovered exceptionally quickly. Everything hurt and felt bruised, but within three days I no longer needed painkillers. On the second day after the surgery, I could shower by myself and resume light activities without too much difficulty or pain. After six weeks, I could do everything again.” What do you think of the result? “Aesthetically speaking, I think it looks better, but I also notice that I can move more easily. Leonie no longer wanted breast implants and opted for lipofilling
In the spring of 2023, Leonie visited Dr. Gijs van Selms for a consultation. Years ago, she had had breast implants placed to gain more self-confidence. Marga's experience with prosthesis removal and lipofilling at Jan van Goyen
After 16 years, Marga (51) decided to have her breast implants removed. Although she had been satisfied with her choice for years, she noticed that the implants no longer fit the phase of life she is currently in. She wanted a more natural look and read about lipofilling. At Esthetisch Centrum Jan van Goyen, she found the care and expertise she was looking for. New phase Marga received breast implants 16 years ago, a choice she was very satisfied with at the time. “I was 35 and wanted a bit more volume and symmetry in my breasts. The implants gave me that, and for years I was happy with the result,” she says. Marga was certain that this was the right choice for her, but she was still a bit nervous. “Every surgery is nerve-wracking, of course. But it felt good that I had discussed exactly what I wanted and what to expect with Dr. Moerman. She explained it really well. Moreover, the nurses and assistants were all very sweet and caring. This made me feel a bit more relaxed.” The surgery went without complications. Marga had some swelling and bruising, but that was normal. “The first few days weren't great, of course. I had some pain and discomfort, but it was all worth it. It was manageable and the recovery went smoothly. I soon noticed that my breasts felt soft. It was such a relief to be rid of that hard feeling from the implants. Moreover, the whole thing looked more natural.” Subtle change after lipofilling After a few weeks, Marga began to see the result. “The change in my breasts is very subtle and natural. They have also hardly changed in size, which is so nice! My breasts feel like my own again and no longer 'strange,' as if they don't belong to my body. They fit my stage of life better. My 'new breasts' also look better in T-shirts. When I still had the implants, they were a bit far apart.
