When you have been to the consultation and decide to undergo the operation, you will receive all the information about the operation from the consultant. On this page we will tell you briefly what you can expect.
The preparation
An eyelid correction is a relatively minor procedure and requires little preparation. After the operation, it is advisable to place ice packs on the eyelids to reduce swelling. We advise you to purchase these ice packs before the operation. They are available in the form of a mask and are available at most drugstores.
On the day of the operation, the face must be cleaned. It is important to come to the clinic with completely clean skin. Do not apply any skin cream or cosmetics on or around the eyelids.
Do you wear contact lenses? Make sure you remove them before your arrival. Also keep in mind that you may not wear contact lenses for up to 2 weeks after the operation.
Are you very tense? Then it is possible to use a sedative before the operation.
If you are very tense, you may be given a sedative before the operation.
We recommend using Seresta (10 mg), possibly in consultation with your doctor, one to two hours apart.
before the procedure.
How does an eyelid correction proceed?
On the day of the operation, you report to the reception. When the plastic surgeon is ready, you will be picked up and he/she will draw the eyelids. Do you have any questions or concerns? You will of course be given the opportunity to share them.
A upper eyelid correction takes place under local anesthesia. Before the procedure, the plastic surgeon will carefully mark out which part of the skin may be removed. For an upper eyelid correction, the surgeon will then make a small incision in the skin fold of the upper eyelid. The operation takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes.
A lower eyelid correction is often under general anesthesia (anesthesia) performed. During the lower eyelid correction, the plastic surgeon makes a small incision under the lash line of the lower eyelid. The operation takes approximately 75 to 90 minutes.
Both procedures remove the fat and excess skin from the eyelids. The combination of fat removal and tightening of the skin gives optimal results. The plastic surgeon places sutures that we remove during the first check-up appointment.
After the surgery
After the operation, you will lie on a bed in our recovery room for a short time. Before you go there, we will put ice on your eyes. When you feel well and the nurse gives permission, you can go home. Please note that someone will pick you up and accompany you, because the anesthesia can blur your vision somewhat.
Plasters
The plasters will get dirty due to bleeding, but you should leave them on. You may touch your face
washing and also showering, the plasters usually stay in place well and dry normally.
Things to keep in mind
Before undergoing eyelid surgery, it is useful to know the following and take it into consideration:
- You will not look presentable for some time. In a upper eyelid correction is this average 7 to 10 days. At one lower eyelid correction average 14 daysMany patients indicate that their recovery was not too bad, but in the first few days you can see from your face that you have had an operation.
- It is advisable to be in good physical condition before the operation. If you go into the operation well rested and in good health, the chance of a successful recovery is high. To give your health a boost, we can advise you to do the following before and after the operation multivitamins and Arnica drops to use. For the drops Arnica D6 applies: 20 drops three times a day, starting 14 days before the operation until 3 days after the procedure.
- The first few days after the procedure you should take it easy. Ask your doctor how long he or she advises you to take off work. This depends on your profession: with a sedentary job you could go back to work after a few days, but with more physically demanding work the plastic surgeon will advise you to take longer off.
- If you smoke, you must stop 3 weeks before the operation. Smoking adversely affects the healing process.
