When her husband kept holding up her eyelids, Miranda Keijzer (52) from Volendam knew: this has to change. She had an upper eyelid correction done by plastic surgeon drs. Paula Roossink of Esthetisch Centrum Jan van Goyen. A small procedure with, for her, a big effect.
Lift eyelids
“It actually started as a joke,” says Miranda. “My husband would regularly lift my eyelids with two fingers. He said: 'They're really drooping.' I thought that was nonsense at first, but when I looked closer I thought: damn, he's right. Moreover, I also had real complaints. I kept squinting my eyes, which was incredibly tiring.”
Through her sister, she came into contact with plastic surgeon Drs. Paula Roossink. “My sister immediately said: 'Go to Drs. Roossink, she is very good. An eyelid correction is done in no time and you will benefit enormously from it.'” Miranda did not hesitate for a moment and made an appointment.
Fast and expert
“During the first consultation with Dr. Roossink, she said: 'This will immediately give you a fresh perspective.' And she was right!” laughs Miranda. The procedure was scheduled quickly. “I had indicated when I could, and they were able to take that into account perfectly. It all went very smoothly. Super nice, because once you have made the decision, you also want to be helped quickly.”
At Esthetisch Centrum Jan van Goyen, upper eyelid corrections are performed under local anesthesia. “Of course I was nervous. It is your face after all and you don’t know exactly what to expect. But on the day itself, I immediately felt at ease. The nurse kept chatting and before I knew it, it was over. The procedure lasted maybe twenty minutes. I was given a local anesthetic and didn’t feel anything afterwards. It was really a hundred percent easier than I thought.”
What a difference
Miranda was also very pleased with the aftercare. “I didn’t need any painkillers, just good cooling, which felt good. The only thing was that I looked a bit like a panda for a few days. But that’s part of it.”
Although the swelling was a bit of a shock, she saw results quickly. “Even with the plasters on, I thought: wow, what a difference. And once it had healed, I was so happy with how I looked.”
Brother too
The result was not only visible to Miranda. “I immediately sent a photo to my brother and he said: 'I want that too.' And yes, just before Christmas he also had an eyelid correction done, also by Dr. Roossink!”
The difference is now clearly visible. “I no longer have to squint when I walk outside. No more tired eyes, no more headaches, no more frowning. It is a very rewarding intervention, because it is so small and yet has such an effect. I am extremely happy with it.”
