You may experience certain spots on your body as disfiguring. There are various ways to have these spots removed.
Shave excision
The superficial removal (shaving) of disturbing and/or disfiguring spots such as elevated benign birthmarks, warts, and fibroids.
The spot is locally sedated and then removed using a surgical knife, so there will be no stitches. The procedure will only leave an abrasion that will heal automatically. When the spot is cauterised, a crust will form immediately, which will fall off of its own accord. After the treatment, the location can be a bit red or lighter in colour, but the difference in colour usually disappears within a few months. This procedure is a good alternative to a normal excision which always needs stitching and often leaves a larger scar.
Curetage
The superficial scraping with a curette (round-shaped instrument) of disturbing and/or disfiguring spots such as elevated benign birthmarks, warts, and fibroids.
When necessary, the spot is locally sedated and then removed using a surgical knife, so there will be no stitches. The procedure will leave an abrasion that will heal automatically. When the spot is seared, a crust will form immediately, which will fall off of its own accord. After the treatment, the location can be a bit red or lighter in colour, but the difference in colour usually disappears within a few months. This procedure is a good alternative to a normal excision which always needs stitching and often leaves a larger scar.
Electrocoagulation
The superficial cauterisation of red veins (cherry angiomas, spider naevi), warts, and some other types of benign swelling of the skin.
The spot is locally sedated with either a cream or a small injection. After the procedure, a small crust will form which will fall off automatically. There is no need for stitches. There may be a slight difference in colour compared to the rest of the skin which will usually gradually disappear. It is important to protect the treated spots against direct sunlight.
